Dear Parents and Caregivers,
Welcome to TV&ME for Parents! We at Concerned Children's Advertisers respect that as parents, you are your child's first and most influential teachers. We are also aware that parenting is a rewarding - but challenging - experience. It's challenging to be a parent because it's challenging to be a kid!
Today's youth face challenges that require them to have the skills, knowledge and tools to address life experiences in positive, constructive ways. Daily issues such as low self-esteem, bullying, stress and the pressures of fitting in make it necessary for our children to have a strong support system to help them make wise decisions.
Add to this the impact of technology as they multi-task as a regular part of their lives. It is not uncommon to see our children watching television, while searching the Internet for information and chatting on the phone with a friend. Media is a large part of their daily lives and children need to know how to use these 'wonders of technology' to enhance and enrich their lives in safe and productive ways.
TV&ME for Parents is part of the larger TV&ME program involving children, parents, educators and community, which is designed to support children in developing healthy media habits and life coping skills. TV&ME focuses on providing the cornerstones of media literacy - the tools to think critically, watch carefully and navigate safely - as our children strive to 'be the best they can be'.
As you navigate your way through TV&ME, we invite you to 'print and post' the sections you find most helpful. Put them on the fridge, a bulletin board or anywhere you wish as a reminder of healthy lifestyle and media choices.
As always, we welcome any feedback or tips that we can learn from.
Thank you for allowing us the opportunity to share in the wonderful journey of helping your children to build healthy lives!
Sincerely,
 |
